What Will Journey Offer?
By Founding Pastors,
Gary Groves and Suzy Castle-Rolen:
The
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is uniquely positioned to
engage the changing culture that confronts us. With our spirit
of inclusiveness, our freedom—and responsibility—to interpret
and engage the Holy Scriptures, an open and inviting Lord’s
Table and our commitment to pursue justice, the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) embodies much that deeply resonates with
postmodern thought and influence. The task ahead requires the
willingness on the part of all churches to reach the un-churched
and the unbeliever with new metaphors, new language and new
tools that connect with this segment while refusing to
compromise the Gospel message.
With this in mind, we envision this new church start to be a
community of faith represented by a full complement of
generations, but with a focus on reaching the postmodern
community ranging from the baby boomers to the GenX’ers to the
echo boomers with an additional desire to reach the growing
Hispanic segment. Our efforts will center on attracting this
target group through creative and meaningful worship
under-girded by a small group adult-based ministry using such
models from Saddleback Church in California, and Ginghamsburg
UMC in Ohio, and our denomination’s very own South Suburban
CCDOC in Colorado.
The journey calls us to nurture people. The development / implementation
of small groups will serve as the contact point for building and
sustaining personal relationships while creating the impetus to
grow together in discipleship and mission.
Multi-sensory worship, relationship-driven small groups,
embracing diversity, meeting people “in the world where they
live,” making the road easier to travel for others—this is the
color pallet CHURCH ON THE JOURNEY will use to paint the
glorious face of the God Who Loves All for everyone to see.
