Howdy, Y’all! While people say that I sound like I’m from
Nebraska, my roots are actually here in West Texas (it must have
had something to do with that six year hiatus in Denver during
those adolescent years). My given and legal name is Gary Groves.
But I answer to Jerry Gross, Barry Grover, Terry Grooves, Larry
Grobes, and Harry Graves to name a few—or just plain Skip.
Before the launch of Church on the JOURNEY, I spent 5 ½ years at
First Christian Church of Midland and had an incredible time
overseeing the evangelism, adult education and congregational
nurture ministries of the church. Before that assignment, I
served six years as the pulpit minister at First Christian
Church in Big Spring, TX.
Three precious girls ranging in age from the teens to the
twenties provide
my wife, Judy, and me with our most important—and
joyous—ministry opportunities. Just an aside—“Ra, Ra, TCU . . .
Ra, Ra, TCU!” Two degrees and a small fortune will sometimes
cause one to blurt that out . . .
